Our language truncates the depth of emotion the writer strives to communicate regardless of a vast vocabulary or grammatical proficiency. Writing fiction takes the author into worlds that he or she has to convey convincingly to the reader. Once the writer is aware of the challenge, he or she can continue on the journey armed with a powerful tool: the ability to convincingly use language to draw the reader into a world of the author's creation. The writer needs to convey the story not as fiction, but as a living paradigm that is connected to the reader's inner or outer life. 2) Room to Expand- Writing a novel (200 pages and up) gives the author plenty of room to write the story. The writer can take as much space to convey the story as he or she needs. This is a great benefit choosing the novel as a form for self- expression and creating a believable world.

3) Broader Readership- Few people read short stories but many read novels.

4) Easier to Publish Novels- Since there is more of a readership for novels, publishers are more likely to publish novels than short stories.

5) Readers like to escape- If a reader has connected to a novel on a visceral level, it is likely that they will read it again or pass it along to friends. Even though the reader is emotionally involved in the story it is fiction so there is still a sense of detachment that suggests both protection and mystery.
